A lot of air quality permitting projects requires a facility-wide inventory of all air emissions sources. An accurate determination of emissions is also necessary for payment of annual permit fees to regulatory agencies.

In addition to common point sources, facilities often have emissions sources that are more complex to identify and quantify, such as the raw material storage piles, material handling operations, solvent cleaning of parts and machinery, surface coating operations, and dust from roadways and parking lots. Use of appropriate methodologies and emission factors and rates is fundamental in determining applicable regulations.

The National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) is Canada’s legislated, publicly accessible inventory of pollutant releases (to air, water, and land), disposals, and transfers for recycling. Annual NPRI reporting is required under the authority of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act of 1999 (CEPA).

Developing the NPRI Program can be a complex and time consuming project. Our Expert has conducted emissions inventories for several facilities, some with more than 1,000 individual emission points, including fugitive, mobile, point, area, and line sources.

We utilize a variety of resources to arrive at the most appropriate emission factor for each source, including information developed by EPA, industry organizations, and equipment manufacturers.

MICONE compiles the emissions data and corresponding calculations and prepares detailed reports documenting this information.
