Employee Assistance

Employees who are concerned about, or are experiencing alcohol and drug problems are encouraged to seek assistance from MICONE’s Human Resources, their personal physician or appropriate community services before job performance is impacted or violation of this policy occurs.

Disciplinary Action

Disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment will be taken where MICONE determines violation of this policy has occurred.

Investigation and Testing

Periodically or following an accident/near miss or observation of impaired judgment/unusual behavior, the organization may require employees involved to undergo testing for drugs/alcohol. Urinalysis will be performed at a medical facility designated by the organization to detect the presence of drugs/alcohol.


A positive test may result in disciplinary action if there is reasonable cause to believe that an employee is in violation of this policy. The maximum permitted level of blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is 0.03. The drug levels that will be reported as a positive result based on thresholds specified by the Construction Owners Association of Alberta (COAA).

Alcohol and drug policy


MICONE Consulting Inc. is committed to protecting the health and safety of its employees. MICONE recognizes that the misuse of alcohol and other drugs increases the risk of harm, and adversely affects employee safety, productivity, and overall work performance. This policy applies to all employees that are engaged in organization business, working in organization premises, or operating organization vehicles. To reduce the risk of unsafe performance due to misuse of alcohol & drugs;


• Employees are expected to report fit for work and remain fit throughout working hours

• The use or possession of illegal drugs or prohibited substances is prohibited

• The organization will determine whether the employee will be permitted to work or whether work restrictions will apply

• Employees who are not capable of working safely will not be permitted to work, and will be ordered to leave the organization premises.
